Used in large-scale water treatment and desalination projects across Southeast Asia, Middle East, and coastal industrial systems

Overview

Overview of Rubber Lined Butterfly Valve

Rubber lined butterfly valves are designed for corrosion-resistant shutoff in low to medium pressure systems.

With 3–5 mm internal rubber lining (ebonite, EPDM or NBR), the valve protects the body from aggressive media such as sewage, seawater, and chemicals.

The soft sealing design ensures reliable bubble-tight performance, making it a cost-effective solution for water treatment, desalination, and general industrial applications.

Industry Solutions

Typical Applications

Widely used in corrosive, seawater and large diameter pipeline systems worldwide

Rubber lined butterfly valve installed in water treatment plant pipeline

Water Treatment Systems

Clean water, wastewater, and sludge handling. Ebonite lining resists abrasion and corrosion for long-term reliable service in municipal and industrial water systems.

Desalination plant with rubber lined valves for seawater intake pipelines

Seawater & Desalination Plants

Cooling water, intake and discharge pipelines. Thick ebonite lining provides superior resistance to saltwater corrosion in coastal and offshore environments.

Chemical processing plant using rubber lined butterfly valves for corrosive media

Chemical Processing

Mild corrosive media and liquid chemicals. Rubber lining acts as a full barrier between aggressive fluids and the valve body, extending service life significantly.

HVAC cooling water system with rubber lined butterfly valve

HVAC & Utility Systems

Cooling water and circulation pipelines. Low torque operation and bubble-tight sealing make it ideal for building services and district cooling networks.

Marine coastal project pipeline with rubber lined valves for seawater transport

Marine & Coastal Projects

Seawater transport and industrial water systems. Heavy-duty rubber lining withstands the harsh conditions of marine environments and coastal infrastructure.

Material Guide

Lining Material Selection Guide

Selecting the correct rubber lining material is critical to ensure long-term performance and corrosion resistance. The choice depends on media type, temperature, and operating conditions.

Ebonite rubber lined butterfly valve for seawater and chemical applications

Ebonite (Hard Rubber)

Most Popular

Best for: Seawater, wastewater, acidic and mildly corrosive chemicals

Excellent resistance to seawater and many chemical media
Low water absorption and good dimensional stability
High hardness and strong abrasion resistance
Typical temperature range: up to 100℃

Recommended for desalination, seawater pipelines, and chemical service

EPDM lined butterfly valve for water treatment and HVAC systems

EPDM

Water & Steam

Best for: Water, hot water, steam, and neutral fluids

Excellent resistance to water, steam, and aging
Good flexibility and sealing performance
Not suitable for oil and hydrocarbons
Typical temperature range: -20℃ to 120℃

Recommended for water treatment and HVAC systems

NBR lined butterfly valve for oil and hydrocarbon applications

NBR (Buna-N)

Oil Service

Best for: Oil-containing media and hydrocarbons

Good resistance to oils, fuels, and grease
Moderate resistance to water and chemicals
Not suitable for strong oxidizing media
Typical temperature range: -10℃ to 100℃

Recommended for oil-related industrial applications

Sealing Performance

Sealing Performance & Standards

Rubber lined butterfly valves adopt a soft seat sealing design, providing reliable bubble-tight shutoff under low to medium pressure conditions. The resilient rubber lining acts as the primary sealing element, ensuring tight contact between the disc and seat, even under low differential pressure.

Complies with ISO 5208 Rate A (zero leakage)

Suitable for bi-directional sealing

Stable sealing performance in water, seawater, and non-aggressive chemical media

Sealing Characteristics

Soft sealing (resilient seat) design for tight shutoff

Effective sealing at low pressure and low torque

Suitable for frequent operation applications

Not recommended for high temperature or high pressure service
